MBSR Anytime Orientation


Class “0” kicks off with essential tips for engaging the MBSR Anytime program and a brief history of evolution of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction. 

In addition to understanding how to navigate the program, and getting to meet your teachers, the fundamental elements of mindfulness are introduced here. We invite you to view this as the base camp experience for climbing Mount Everest!

CLASS ONE: Wholeness and Capability - Opening to and Being in the Present Moment

Everything you need to be successful in this program you already have. "As long as you are breathing, there is more right with you than wrong with you." Jon Kabat-Zinn

In Class One, mindfulness is defined and experienced through simple practices. We begin to explore the power of applying nonjudgmental, openhearted, curious attention, to what is actually happening, moment-by-moment.

CLASS TWO: Perception and Creative Responding

How we see things, or do not see things, has a powerful influence on the habitual ways that we react to our experiences.

Habit patterns are neither good nor bad in themselves, but automatic, mindless reactivity may lead to thoughts, emotions, and actions that are not consciously chosen.

CLASS THREE: There is Pleasure and Power in Being Present

The present moment is becoming a familiar, comfortable, and powerful place to be in.

In Class Three, we explore the experience of mindfulness deeply through diverse practices and tools. We learn to "relax from the inside out", as one of our participants put it so eloquently.

CLASS FOUR: Awareness of Being Stuck in One’s Life and How to Get Unstuck

Class Four marks the entry into the heart of the program and the beginning of transforming stress through mindfulness.  

Recognizing being stuck, and being able to step back before being triggered into an automatic reaction is life-changing.

CLASS FIVE: Stress Reactivity versus Responding Wisely

In Class Five, the skillful use of mindfulness for stress reduction is addressed. As we deepen our knowledge of the science of the stress reaction both academically and experientially in sitting meditation and mindful yoga, we practice how to respond rather than react in meditation

We learn how to find that precious space between stimulus and response that lets us choose our next step.

DAY OF MINDFULNESS

This Day of Mindfulness is an invitation to take a step away from your usual routine, to excuse yourself from your obligations, to take a digital holiday, to experience a mini retreat in comfort and silence at the time and place of your choosing.

This is a powerful opportunity for solidifying all that has been learned so far in the program and taking your mindfulness practice to the next level.

CLASS SIX: Mindful Communication

The exploration of reacting vs responding is deepened in Class Six.

Experiential mindfulness practice continues with choiceless awareness sitting meditation and walking meditation. Stress and suffering are considered, including in the context of relationships. 

Difficult communications form the topic of interest in Class Six, as well as the elements of Mindful Communication.

CLASS SEVEN: Integrating Mindfulness Into Daily Life

Life in general is full of difficult people, difficult situations, and difficult emotions. In Class Seven, we explore how to face daily challenges skillfully with mindfulness tools.

Bringing the formal and informal practices into our own personal situations and how to make the practice our own is addressed here.

CLASS EIGHT: Looking back, looking forward

Endings, beginnings, closing the circle. In Class Eight, we revisit our formal practices, reflect on the tools, informal practices, and our most significant learning moments. 

Rossana and Irena think of this class as the beginning of the next chapter of your mindfulness adventure and provide you with guidance for continuing mindfulness after MBSR Anytime.

MEET YOUR INSTRUCTORS

Irena Danys, MD

Irena Danys is a physician and mindfulness teacher dedicated to bringing the discoveries of neuroscience together with centuries old meditation practices to provide vital, relevant, and effective tools for living with grace and ease despite stress, illness, or conflict. She is a Certified Teacher of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, the founder of Mindful Healers, www.mindfulhealers.com, and the co-creator of MBSR Anytime™.






Rossana Magalhaes, MS, EdS, LCMHC

Rossana L. Magalhaes, is a Mental Health Counselor and a Mindfulness coach. Rossana is originally from Brazil and first started meditating when she was living in Rio de Janeiro, more than twenty years ago. She is certified as a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction teacher as well as a Kuru Mindfulness teacher. Rossana is the author of a Mindfulness set of 54 cards, in Portuguese, used in schools for children and adolescents, as well as by adults. These Mindfulness Cards are valued for the great benefits experienced by those using them in their daily lives. In particular, they report feeling more connected to the present and to themselves, as well as experiencing less anxiety and frustration. Rossana teaches Mindfulness interventions in schools and business environments.
